Class Descriptions

Beginner Ballet and Tap is a 55 minute class for (potty-trained) 3 & 4 year old dancers and contains ballet, tap, and creative movement. The first half of class is focused on ballet and incorporates learning the basic feet and arm positions of ballet. Dancers also work on flexibility, balance, and strength. The second half of class focuses on tap. Dancers learn basic tap terminology, parts of the foot, and musicality. Throughout class we will explore creative movement through games and imaginative play.

Kinder Ballet and Tap is a 55-minute class for 5-year-old dancers. The first half of class focuses on ballet and incorporates proper arm and feet placement, beginning barre work, beginning jumps and across the floor work. The second half of class focuses on the beginning foundations of tap. Tap is a style of dance that uses sounds with your feet to create unique sounds and rhythms. Students work on basic tap terminology,  learn parts of the foot, and musicality while learning to put steps together. Dancers work to memorize basic ballet and tap choreography. Dancers also begin working on flexibility, balance, and strength.

Jazz/Hip Hop Fusion is a 30-minute "add-on" class for 5 - 7 year old dancers who are currently enrolled in a Ballet and Tap class. The Jazz/Hip Hop Fusion class is a blend of Jazz and Hip Hop dance styles and is great for young dancers who are interested in trying new styles.

Mini/Primary Ballet and Tap is a 55 minutes class for 6 & 7 old dancers. (Mini - 6 Year Olds, Primary - 7 year Olds) The first half o class focuses on ballet and incorporates learning and honing basic feet and arm postions, barre work, beginning jumps, leaps and across the floor work. The second half of class focuses on tap and dancers learn basic and tap terminology, parts of the foot, and musicality. Dancers begin to learn more complex choreography and continue to work memorization. During class we will also focus on flexibility, balance, and strength.

Petite and Intermediate Lyrical and Jazz is a 55 minute combination class that includes instruction in Lyrical and Jazz dance styles. This class is meant for dancers 8 - 10 years old. Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motions that tell a story. Students will learn lyrical technique along with how to express emotion through movement.Jazz combines many styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance to ballet. Our jazz classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology and style with an emphasis on proper technique, alignment and movement quality. Set to jazz, R&B, urban, and pop music. Jazz classes are a great workout and fun for all ages.

Musical Theatre is an upbeat class that teaches Broadway-style jazz choreography and show-stopping stage presence with a focus on learning song-and-dance numbers from a variety of musical productions, past and present. The instructor also leads the class in musical theatre games and activities to allow students to practice improv and utilizing stage presence. This class is a 30 minute "add on" class.

Hip Hop is a 30 minute class that encompasses many different urban dance styles such as poppin’, locking, breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Our Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography without suggestive music or movements. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Our Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun. This is an excellent class for high-energy kids who want to take a fast and fun dance class. Our Hip Hop class can be taken as an "add on' class or as stand alone class. This dance style is offered to dancers age 8 years and older.

Acro is a 30 minute class that meets weekly. Acro/Tumbling will teach students fundamental acrobatic and tumbling moves that are performed on mats. This class is strictly floor work. 

 

Sample moves include front and back rolls, headstands, backbends, cartwheels, walkovers, backhand springs, etc. Class will focus on strength and flexibility while acquiring valuable skills that can be used in dance, cheerleading, and gymnastics routines.

Pointe is an advanced form of ballet where dancers perform on the tips of their toes in special pointe shoes. It builds on years of ballet training and combines strength, control, and grace to create the effortless beauty classical ballet is known for. Dancers must first demonstrate proficiency in ballet and meet all A Time To Dance Pointe requirements before being approved to begin pointe work.

Baton is a 30 minute class that meets weekly. Students learn the basics and art of baton twirling. Baton fuses the skill of twirl and dance togetherBaton twirling is a sport that we are trying to bring back to our area.  These classes include hand eye coordination, learning to toss, twirl, movements, rolls on the body, marching and all while including dance movements and gymnastics.  Baton twirling is a unique sport that is great for all types of performers.  If you want to wow the crowd, twirl for your school, and do something truly amazing, come twirl with A Time to Dance.

Ballet is a stand-alone class for our Petite, Intermediate, Junior, Teen, and Senior age groups. Ballet is the foundation of most dance styles, emphasizing grace, strength, and precise technique. Our classes focus on developing proper alignment, flexibility, and artistry while building strength and discipline in our dancers.

Each class begins with barre work to develop fundamental technique, followed by center exercises that focus on balance, control, and fluidity of movement. Across-the-floor progressions and choreography help dancers apply their skills in artistic expression. Whether your dancer is just beginning or advancing their technique, our ballet classes provide a structured and supportive environment where they can grow in confidence, poise, and skill.

Tap is offered as a stand-alone class for our Petite, Intermediate, Junior, Teen, and Senior age groups. Tap dance focuses on rhythm, musicality, and precision, allowing dancers to use their feet as instruments to create intricate sounds and patterns.Classes begin with warm-ups and fundamental exercises to develop clarity of sound, coordination, and technique. Dancers progress through center work, across-the-floor combinations, and choreography that challenge their timing, speed, and performance quality. Whether your dancer is just starting or refining their skills, our tap classes provide an engaging and energetic environment where they can build confidence, rhythm, and a love for movement through music.

Junior/Teen/Senior Lyrical and Jazz is a 90 minute combination class that includes instruction in Lyrical and Jazz dance styles. This class is meant for students who have developed and honed their skill and technique and placement is determined by instructors. Students move from intermediate into the junior or senior class once they are able to show their ability to pick up more difficult choreography, have learned the required technique and skills, and show a mature work ethic. Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motions that tell a story. Students will learn lyrical technique along with how to express emotion through movement.Jazz combines many styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance to ballet.
